With less than one month to go on the 5 December deadline for ESOS compliance, many companies are still not fully compliant with the new Energy Saving Opportunities Scheme regulations. Are you ESOS Compliant?
5 December 2015, marks the official deadline for submission of the first ESOS audit for many large UK companies, and naturally this task has landed on many facilities managers desks.
The ESOS Energy Saving Opportunities Scheme Regulations, produced by the European Union's Energy Efficiency Directive has been introduced for all UK businesses with 250 employees or more, £40m annual turnover or a balance sheet of more than £34m. The scheme is designed to encourage businesses to cut emissions and save money on their energy use.
The regulations state that all organisations that fit the above criteria are obliged to complete an energy efficiency audit every four years with the first completed audit due on 5 December 2015.
Any business that does not comply with the audit by the deadline faces risks of fines of up to £50,000 and £500 per day for non-compliance for up to 80 days.
